Happiness can be found …

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.

— Dumbledore in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” by J.K.Rowling.

Profound words for all times.  Perhaps needed today more than ever (well, at least in my lifetime.)

I stitched up this pillow for my favorite niece.  (She’s technically my only niece, but she really is a favorite.)  She has a short form of the quote as a tattoo.  The pattern is from Etsy, and the pillow form is Ikea.

A small hint for stitching on black fabric:  Put something white behind the cloth so it’s easier to find the holes.  I usually just lay the pattern (printed on white paper) on my lap.

CSOTM: August 2018 — Iris

Cross-stitch of the month for August, 2018. My Mom lives across the country, so I don’t get to see her very often.  I try to send a cross stitch card every month, hoping that it gives her something to talk about with her friends. Here’s what I sent for August: The pattern is from Better Homes and Gardens 2001 Cross Stitch Designs: The Essential Reference (1999), p. 37.  Of course, I added the text.  I was hard pressed to think of something snappy for August, so I kept it simple. I added beads for the stamens, but they don’t really show up in the photo.
